<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent display failures due to a lateral electric field occurring between pixel electrodes in a liquid crystal device having a flattened interlayer insulating film and to make a high-quality image display possible. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has a liquid crystal layer 50 held between a counter substrate 30 and a TFT array substrate 200 on which a plurality of pixel electrodes 9a are arranged in a matrix. The TFT array substrate 200 is formed by successively laminating a semiconductor layer 1, gate insulating film 2, scanning line 3 and capacitor line 3b, flattened interlayer insulating film 4, interlayer insulating film 7 and pixel electrodes 9a on a substrate 10. A pattern film 6b is arranged between the interlayer insulating film 4 and the interlayer insulating film 7 approximately according to the region between adjacent pixel electrodes 9a. By arranging the pattern film 6b, the surface level differs on the side of the TFT array substrate 200 in contact with the liquid crystal layer 50, and this prevents alignment failures in the liquid crystal molecules due to a lateral electric field occurring between adjacent pixel electrodes.</p> |
