PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method by which a change of dot gain and a change of color tone in the development of a broad sample and in continuous image output are prevented and an excellent image can be formed. SOLUTION: In the image forming method in which a silver halide photosensitive material of >=400 mm width with at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing silver halide grains containing >=95 mol% silver chloride on the substrate is subjected to scanning exposure to form an area gradation image, the emulsion layer is exposed with >=2 levels of light exposure in such a way that one pixel is exposed with plural devices having the substantially same wavelength and development is carried out in <=60 sec developing time.
