The object of the invention is an embossing press (9), consisting of an embossing roller (11) and a counter roller (12), for producing embossed seams for the purpose of joini ng at least two su- perimposed paper or formed fabrics layers being moved in a straight-line fee d direction. In this, the embossed seams run at an inclination or at right angles with respect to the feed direction of the paper or formed fabrics layers. The embossing roller (11), according to the invention, is formed with at lea st two rows of em- bossing teeth (13, 14) running at a distance from each other, and the counte r roller is formed, at least in its embossing-effective working region, as a grooved roller (12). An equivalent embodiment form of the invention is characterized by the fact that the embossing roller (11) is provided with one row of embossing teeth (16), whose total width is at least equal to the total width of the embossed seam producible through the embossing proces s, and that the counter roller, at least in its embossing-effective working region, is forme d as a grooved roller (12), the grooves (15) being interrupted in their embossing-effective workin g region by at least one slot (17) corresponding to the unembossed separation zone (8) desired between the individ- ual embossed seams.
