<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transfer a packet by utilizing transmission enable rate information from a network by a higher-order layer protocol, when a lower-order layer protocol has the information. SOLUTION: An ATM communication network is provided with an explicit congestion reporting function or an explicit transmission enable data amount reporting function. An ATM layer protocol function part 9 of the lower-order layer protocol function part 9 mounted on a transmission terminal holds transmission enable rate information or transmission enable data amount information. Then the transmission enable rate information is directly obtained by the higher- order protocol function part 5 of the higher-order layer protocol 4 mounted on the transmission terminal and the higher-order layer protocol 4 executes the shaping of a data transfer rate based on obtained transmission possible rate information. Thus, the data is transferred at high speed, while avoiding congestion in the ATM communication network and the ATM layer protocol function part 9 of a lower-order layer mounted on the transmission terminal.</p> |
