METHOD OF IMAGE COMPRESSION BY VECTOR QUANTIZATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of image compression by vector quantization capable of efficiently reducing redundancy. SOLUTION: In this method of image compression by the vector quantization, the redundancy is efficiently reduced and the signal distribution area is efficiently divided by dividing image signals into adjacent pixel blocks, deriving the ratio of individual pixel values and the average value of the blocks and concentrating the signal distribution of a pattern coefficient vector whose component is the above ratio to the vicinity of one point which is the normalization value by the average value.
