PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein the difference of brightness of a display screen is hardly generated. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device 1, facial light emitted from a light transmission plate 4 is projected on a liquid crystal cell 13 through a prism sheet 12 and a polarizing plate 14. The prism sheet 12 can turn the direction of the maximum intensity of the light emitted from the light transmission plate 4 to the direction of the transmission axis of the polarizing plate 14 to increase the light quantity of the polarized component passing through the polarizing plate 14.
