PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device having excellent productivity, wherein the defects due to residual bubbles, the leakage of a liquid crystal, the unevenness of a cell gap and the like are not generated. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer 3 is applied on one substrate 1 in a film shape having a thickness as same as the thickness of the liquid crystal layer at the time of completion of sealing of a liquid crystal and in an outside shape as same as the outline shape of the liquid crystal layer at the time of completion of sealing of the liquid crystal and a sealing material 4 is provided on the other substrate 2 in a frame shape thicker than the liquid crystal layer 3 and bigger than the outside shape of the liquid crystal layer 3. The two substrates 1 and 2 are stuck to each other under a reduced pressure, then pressed while the thickness to be a cell gap 12 of the liquid crystal layer 3 is measured by using a cell thickness meter 11 and the sealing material 4 is press-widened and the liquid crystal is sealed to manufacture the liquid crystal display element 6.
