An anti-theft protection system for motor vehicle includes a control unit (2) secured in the vehicle, and several code signal transmitters (22) for data communication with the control unit. In one of the code signal transmitters, transmitted code information containing code signals can be compared with code information held in a memory of the control unit, and with a positive comparison result, a vehicle function vital for operation of the vehicle can be released or blocked. Each code signal transmitter (22) has a code-signal transmitter- specific identifier or identification by means of which the code signal transmitter is constantly identifiable in the control unit (2) in a 'question-and-answer' operation. The control unit (2) controls the functionality of the code signal transmitters in dependence on their identifier/identification in such a way that the operationally vital vehicle function is only releaseable from one code signal transmitter.
