Textile fibers (6), e.g. slivers, are drafted by applying the necessary drafting forces by means of a fluid (7), e.g. water or air. The fluid and sliver are accelerated in a draw chamber (1), e.g. with gradually reducing cross-section (2, 3, 4). Additional force can be applied upstream by directing the fluid flow against the direction of fiber movement. An Independent claim is also included for drafting equipment incorporating a feed (11), e.g. an injector, for the fluid (7) to a draw chamber (1) of reducing cross-section (2, 3, 4). A fiber container (20) is attached to a transfer section (10) through a seal (15, 25).
