PURPOSE: A device for converting format of picture chrominance signal is provided to simplify a hardware structure by omitting a low pass filtering process when picture signal of 4:2:0 type into picture signal of 4:2:2 type. CONSTITUTION: A device for converting format of picture chrominance signal includes first and second memory parts(52,53) for storing first and second chrominance signals, a multiplexer part(54) for selecting and outputting signals stored in the first and second memory parts according to selection signal, first and second FIFO parts(55,56) for receiving and storing chrominance signal output from the first memory part through the multiplexer part, third and fourth FIFO parts(57,58) for receiving and storing chrominance signal output from the second memory part through the multiplexer part, an SMPTE processing part(59) for outputting output signal of 1 to 4 FIFO parts to an external device, and a memory controlling part(51) for controlling storing and outputting of chrominance signal of the first and second memory parts, transmitting selection signal to the multiplexer part, and transmitting writing and reading control signals to the first to fourth FIFO parts.
