FAST DRYING BIOCIDAL PRESERVATIVE COMPOSITION

The invention relates to fast drying biocidal concentrates and their diluted compositions having enhanced penetration for the treatment and preservation of wood, leather and similar natural products, which concentrate contains: (a) between about 0.5 and about 7 wt.% of an insecticidally or fungicidally active nitrogen- or sulfur-containing component and (b) between about 20 and about 55 wt.% of a solvent for the active component comprising (i) butyrolactone containing 0 to about 85 wt.% N-methyl pyrridone and/or 0 to about 80 wt.% of a C2 to C4 aliphatic alcohol or (ii) a 10/90 to 60/40 mixture of N-methyl pyrrolidone/C2 to C4 aliphatic alcohol. To the above concentrate, 25-80 volumes of diluent can be added by incorporation of the above described aliphatic alcohol, a petroleum distillate boiling above 40 DEG C or a mixture thereof to provide a final diluted composition containing at least 20 wt.% C2 to C4 alcohol.
