The present invention features a photosensing mechanism (10) for a receipt printing machine, which senses a low condition of a paper supply roll housed within a bucket (21) of the receipt printing machine. The paper supply roll (15) has a "floating" characteristic. There are no fixed rotational mounts aligning the roll (15) within the feed bucket (21). The photosensing mechanism (10) adjusts to different positions which result from different mounting orientations of the receipt printing machine.
