PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a false video from being produced on a video projected on a screen. SOLUTION: Video light beams obtained by light valves 14B and 14R are synthesized by a dichroic mirror 12 and projected on the screen 16 in this projection type display device 1, where a reflection layer surface 12C and a reduced reflection layer surface 12D formed on the mirror 12 are arranged in non-parallel and the video light beams obtained from the valve means 14B and 14R are synthesized and emitted in a reflecting direction 10B by the surface 12C. In such a case, the video light beam reflected by the surface 12D being the cause source of the false video is prevented from being projected on the screen 16 when the reflecting direction of the video light transmitted through the surface 12C and reflected by the surface 12D and being the cause source of the false video is made different from the reflecting direction 10B and the synthesized video light beam emitted in the reflecting direction 10B is projected to the screen 16.
