A processor (102) having a limited amount of local memory (106, 108) for storing code and/or data utilizes a program stored in external memory (110). The program stored in external memory (110) is configured into blocks (112-118) which can be loaded individually into the local memory (106, 108) for execution. Queuing the individual blocks of code (112-118) allows the program to be executed by the processor (102) and also facilitates loading of subsequent code to be executed. A semaphore system can be utilized to indicate which blocks of local memory (106, 108) are available/unavailable. A group of transfer parameters as queue entries allow code and data for an algorithm to be transferred between both local memory (106, 108) and external memory (110).
