SQUARYLIUM COMPOUND AND OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM CONTAINING THE SAME

A novel squarylium compound having spectral properties, light resistance, solubility, and thermal decomposability which make the compound suitable for use in DVD-R recording materials; and an optical recording medium containing the compound. The compound is a novel asymmetric squarylium compound represented by general formula (I) which contains in the molecule a pyrazole skeleton and indoline skeleton. The optical recording medium has a recording layer comprising the asymmetric squarylium compound.
