PURPOSE: Provided are a metallocene catalyst, having high activity, for producing syndiotactic polystyrene having excellent syndiotacticity, high melting temperature, and excellent molecular weight distribution and a process for producing the metallocene catalyst. CONSTITUTION: The metallocene catalyst(formula 1a-1e) is produced by a process comprising the steps of: reacting a cycloalkanedienyl derivative ligand with an alkali metal compound or a thallium compound to produce a salt-state ligand containing an alkali metal or thallium cation; applying a compound easy to leave by an acid to the ligand; reacting the resultant with a transition metal compound of a IV group to prepare a half metallocene compound; reacting the half metallocene compound with an alcohol amine compound. In the formula, L1-L5 are each cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, fluorenyl, or a derivative thereof, A1-A11 are independently oxygen atom, B1-B11 are each C1-C20 alkyl or cycloalkyl, C1, C2, C3, C4, and C6 are each nitrogen atom, -NR1', -NR2'R3', -NR4'R5' or -NR6'R7', C5, C7, and C8 are each -NR8'R9' or -CR10'R11'R12', R1'-R12' are independently hydrogen atom or C1-C10 alkyl, X1-X4 are each halogen atom, C1-C10 alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, acyloxy, C6-C20 aryl, alkylaryl, or arylalkyl.
