PURPOSE: A method and a device for generating a land/groove switching signal are provided to automatically decide the switching point of a land and a groove and to accurately control tracking by counting the number of wobbles. CONSTITUTION: A device for generating a land/groove switching signal comprises an envelope extractor(1105) for generating a header block signal, a header window signal generator for generating a header window signal indicating a section of which header information is effective, a header block information extractor(1108) and a physical address regenerator for deciding the effectiveness of a header section signal and regenerating the effective header section signal and physical address, a phase comparator(1112) for generating a first discrimination signal by comparing the phases of a peak header and a bottom header, a continuity tester(1113) for generating a second discrimination signal by testing the continuity of physical addresses, a counter(1114) for generating a third discrimination signal by counting the header window signals, and a land/groove switching signal generating unit for generating a land/groove switching signal.
