<p>A surgical clamp (10) for occluding a body conduit includes first (21) and second (23) jaws moveable relative to each other in a generally parallel relationship. A handle assembly (12, 14) is operable to move the jaws (21, 23) relative to each other between a space position and proximate position. The first jaw (21) has an elongate configuration characterized by a length and a width. First portions (29) of the first jaw (21) have in cross section a first shape which remains generally constant in area along the first jaw (21), while second portions (31) have in cross section a second shape which varies in area along the length of the first jaw (21). The resulting clamp (10) has a low profile jaw (21, 23) design which dimensional-shaped cross section which provide increased stiffness and reduced flexibility.</p> |
