The invention relates to a method for protecting and identifying a 3-dimensional object such as a work of art, an object of value or an industrial component, produced by a foundery technique, casting or similar. According to said method, marker elements (50) are added to the core material (30) of the object when it is produced, said marker elements having different characteristics to the core material (30) of the object so that they have a different reaction to that of the core material (30) of the object to non-destructive agents for examining the internal structure of the object. Said marker elements are metallic (50) and consist of balls with a higher melting point than the metallic core material (30) of the object. The marker elements are introduced into the liquid core material (30) of the object randomly, in solid form, when the object is being poured, without premixing. After the object has been produced, it can be identified by locating the marker elements in the inner structure of the object using a technique of analysis by x-ray tomography. The inventive method provides a means of authenticating an object which is characterized by a reference plane and at least one cutting plane parallel to said reference plane, comprising the image of at least one marker element (50).
