A safety belt buckle comprises a body assembly and a tongue 4, the body assembly having a body 1 formed with a mouth 2 arranged to receive the tongue 4. slidably therein, a spring loaded latch 16 movable into or out of engagement with the tongue in a transverse passage in the body and a release lever 26 bearing on a cam surface 25 on the latch 16 and providing a mechanical advantage when pressed at its free end to release the tongue. As shown in which the body is made of a plastics material, the latch 16 comprises a pillar 17 having on each side thereof lateral ramps 23 which in the engaged position, engage links 22 on the tongue 4. A metal insert is moulded into the body 1 strengthen the mouth 2. The tongue 4, which is made of steel, includes a slide attachment 8. |
