<p>The present invention includes a housing having two or three microwave cavities overlapping one another, the cavities being defined by frequency selective barriers. The housing further includes a nonlinear material layer within the cavities. Through the use of different input and output port configurations with the housing cavity, three different embodiments are possible, including a switched microwave frequency signal multiplier, a microwave parametric amplifier, and a switched microwave amplifier. By placing a Q-switch in series with the exit port, a high efficiency microwave frequency tripler is formed by appropriately selecting the nonlinear material. The use of a circulator on the input port and a separate pump port creates a microwave parametric amplifier where the microwave pump frequency is a multiple of the microwave input signal. An input port, a Q-switched exit port, and a pump port are required to create the switched microwave amplifier that provides higher energy pulses based upon the input microwave signal.</p> |
