<p>A waste treatment system for and method of treating liquid waste, the waste treatment system comprising: a first stage bioreactor unit 12 including a first tank 16 for receiving liquid waste containing organic material, in which the liquid waste is in use at least partially digested; a second stage bioreactor unit 14 including a second tank 24 for receiving the at least partially digested liquid waste from the first stage bioreactor unit 2, in which the partially digested liquid is, in use, further digested; and a membrane extraction unit 44 for extracting liquid filtrate from the further digested liquid waste of the second stage bioreactor unit 14.
