1,266,568. Self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension units. V. LANGEN, [trading as LANGEN & CO.]. 29 April, 1969 [17 May, 1968], No. 21824/69. Heading F2S. Movement of the piston of a hydropneumatic piston-cylinder suspension unit in either direction away from its mean position is progressively damped. An externally tapered hollow tube 6 connected to the cylinder 1 meters flow of liquid between a hydropneumatic accumulator 14 and either the chamber 20 or the chamber 23 depending on the direction of piston movement. The tube 6 also functions as a three-way level control valve, groove 10 placing groove 12 (and thus chamber 20) in communication with supply groove 11, exhaust groove 13, or neither. The centre portion of the tube 6 may be cylindrical to give constant damping for small displacements from the mean position shown. A double acting throttle valve (not shown) may be interposed between the accumulator 14 and the bore 7. Non-return valve 26 enables the piston to be returned quickly to its mean position. |
