PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a web winding method and a web winder by which in taking up a winding web roll, proper nip pressure can be applied so as to form a uniform winding web. SOLUTION: A reel spool 4 is moved from a standby position f on the upstream side from the vertical plane passing the axis of rotation of a support drum 80 to be passed above the support drum 80 to a designated position g, and then the support drum 80 is raised to be nip-engaged with the reel spool 4 standby at the above designated position g. After nip-engagement of the reel spool 4 with the support drum 80, with the vertical position m of the support drum 80 fixed, a web 100 is taken up on the reel spool 4 while the reel spool 4 is transported horizontally or substantially horizontally.
