PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization which shows a high activity when used in combination with an organometallic compound in the polymerization of olefins and which can prepare an olefin polymer which contains an extremely small amount of a low-molecular-weight and/or a low crystalline polymer which is indicated as the amount of the polymer soluble in xylene at 20 deg.C, CXS, and a catalyst for olefin polymerization using the same and a preparation method of an olefin polymer using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization is obtained by contacting (a) a polymer support having a carboxylic group with (b) a compound of a group IV transitional metal in the periodic table and (c) a phenol compound. The catalyst for olefin polymerization is obtained by contacting (A) the solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization with (B) an organic aluminum compound and/or an organic aluminumoxy compound. The preparation method of an olefin polymer uses the catalyst for olefin polymerization.
