PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder in which clogging of a nozzle and deterioration of image quality on a print face can be prevented by supplying seal liquid positively to the nozzle face upon finishing print operation and removing the seal liquid before resuming print operation. SOLUTION: Upon finishing print operation on a print face 20, a coating roll 50 turns on the surface of a recording head 32 as the recording head 32 moves and seal liquid supplied to the outer circumferential surface of the coating roll 50 by means of a seal liquid supply member 42 is applied to an ink ejection opening on the head surface. Consequently, the ink ejection opening can be sealed completely and the nozzle can be prevented from being clogged with dried ink. At the time of printing on the print face 20, the seal liquid is removed by means of a removing blade 38 and since the seal liquid is not ejected together with ink, image quality of the print face 20 can be prevented from deteriorating.
