PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer of high accuracy for sensing whether a printing paper is still available for printing or not and easily inserting a printing paper into a printing paper insertion opening. SOLUTION: The printer is provided with a frame with the printing paper insertion opening, a paper sending member for sensing whether printing paper inserted from the printing paper insertion opening is still available for use or not, a platen supported rotatably on the frame and a printing head for printing on a printing paper wound on the platen, and a narrow section is provided on a part in the width direction of the printing paper insertion opening so that the printing paper passing through a position facing the paper sensing member is passed through the narrow section to provide the accuracy of sensing the printing paper.
