PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device improved so that a thermostat discriminating device and the like may not judge erroneously even if an automatic engine stop/start function is added thereto. SOLUTION: The control device 18 for the 1 provided with the automatic stop/start function is made to hold detection data before the engine is stopped or the computation results based on the detection data when the stop of the engine is automatically controlled. Especially if this is applied to the engine furthermore provided with a thermostat discriminating function, thermostat discriminating processing is continuously performed when the stop of the engine is automatically controlled. Accordingly, the processing steps performed in the case of initial starting are jumped when the engine is restarted after the automatic stop thereof, and consequently, the integrated data to be used for thermostat discrimination and the like don't need to be initialized.
