PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water base ink for ink jet recording which provides a colorant-containing aqueous dispersion having excellent dispersibility and can provide images having high resolution without bleeding, high density, and uniformity and does not cause clogging at the tip of a nozzle and has good drying characteristics on a paper, discharge responsibility, discharge stability, image fastness, and long-term storage stability. SOLUTION: The aqueous dispersion is obtained by dispersing colorants in an aqueous medium in the presence of a graft copolymer composed of (1) a segment (A) composed of (1-1) a monomer (A-1) having an ethylenically unsaturated bond and an anionic group and (1-2) a monomer (A-2) other than monomer (A-1) and having an ethylenically unsaturated bond copolymerizable with monomer (A-1) at a ratio of a hydrophilic monomer in the entire monomers constituting segment (A) of 20-60 mol% and (2) a segment (B) composed of a monomer (B-1) having an ethylenically unsaturated bond and an aromatic group. The water base ink for ink jet recording is composed of the aqueous dispersion. |
