PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of formaldehyde from wooden plate formed by an adhesive containing formaldehyde. SOLUTION: This scavenger for formaldehyde comprises 20-50 wt.% urea or its derivative, 1-15 wt.% hydrazine or its derivative, 0.01-10 wt.% at least one kind of compound selected from a group consisting of non-volatile amine, an acid amide, a lower acid salt and reducing saccharides, 0.1-7 wt.% penetrant and the balance of water. This method for treating a wooden plate comprises using the above scavenger. In the wooden plate, occurrence of formaldehyde is sufficiently controlled.
