PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air lift pump for pumping sand, which is used in a moving bed upflow continuous filter for sucking up sand being a filter medium and saved in expanses necessary for its exchange and maintenance space required for pumping while prolonging its service life. SOLUTION: This air lift pump 1 comprises a sand pumping pipe 2 for sucking up sand and an air supply pipe 3 connected attachably/detachably to the pipe 2 for jetting compressed air to the inside of the pipe 2. Flexible pipes 23, 39, 52 are inserted at the respective intermediate parts of the pipes 2 and 3. The pipe 2 is constituted of plural short pipes 54 to be attachably/detachably connected to one another and is made of high density polyethylene having abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance.
