PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an auger screw from being deflected in the horizontal direction when drilling the hard earth in the vertical direction by an earth auger. SOLUTION: A hydraulic cylinder 5 is fixed downward in a leader 1 supported in a vertical state by a support means 3 such as a power shovel or a jib crane, and the auger screw 11 rotated by a hydraulic motor 9 is fitted to the lower end of the plunger 7 of the hydraulic cylinder 5 in this earth auger. A casing 21 is fixed to the lower end of the leader 1, and a plurality of steady pawls 25 are protruded downward at the lower end of the casing 21 to pierce the ground around a hole 27 to be drilled.
