A needle bed and draw roller assembly for a machine producing endless needled felts has a curved nedle bed 4 in the form of a cylinder with a longitudinal gap 5 (Fig. 2) on its underside through which the internal draw roller 31 is small enough to pass. The free end 7 of needle bed 4 is mounted in a support 8 vertically slidable in guides 11 secured on the end standard 1 of the machine frame. The support 8 has an open side 12 which is closed by a clamp 13 (Fig. 2) during needling but is opened to allow the bed and roller to be swung out for application and removal of the foundation sleeve S and removal of the endless needled felt. The support for the assembly at the other end is mounted to swing horizontally about vertical pivot supports 24 and 27. The roller 31 is adjustable vertically towards and away from the bed 4 to facilitate the application and removal of the sleeve S and also to tension the sleeve S for needling. The supports for the assembly are vertically slidable by means of screw jacks 17 and 30 which have a common operating shaft 20.</p> |
