PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber-containing styrene resin wherein rubber particles dispersed in a styrene resin is controlled with respect to the morphology and particle thereof. SOLUTION: The rubber-containing styrene resin has particles of a rubber component dispersed in a matrix constituted of a styrene resin wherein a graft ratio of a styrene monomer to the rubber component is 1 or over, an average particle size of the dispersed rubber component ranges from 0.1 to 3μm and a requirement for the following equation (1) is satisfied Mn=aT+b (1) (wherein Mn is a number average molecular weight of the matrix resin, T is a conversion of the styrene monomer, a is a constant larger than 0 and b is a constant not smaller than 0). The rubber component may be made of a butadiene rubber or the like. The particle size distribution of the dispersed rubber component may, for example, be in a two-peak form. Such a styrene resin can be prepared by polymerizing at least a styrene monomer in the presence of the rubber component at a graft ratio of 1 or over under conditions where the relation between the conversion Y of the styerene monomer and the number average molecular weight Mn of the polymer can be approximately expressed by a simple equation.
