PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silane coupling agent which can be produced easily in a simple way, improves the characteristics of unvulcanized silica-loaded rubber, and gives a vulcanizate improved in viscoelastic properties and resistances to abrasion and heat aging and to provide a rubber composition containing the same. SOLUTION: A silane coupling agent is provided which is prepared by reacting a polysulfide polymer having a main chain represented by formula 1 (Y is an organic group optionally having a heteroatom or heteroatoms; n is an integr of 1-50; and x is 1.5-4) and thiol groups with a silane compound having epoxy and alkoxysilyl groups. A rubber composition containing the coupling agent is also provided.
