[Also in Division H1] An electrical device comprises a conductive layer of copper foil bonded to a layer of a polyphenylene oxide. In one method of making the device, which may be a circuit board or high frequency strip transmission line, granules of polyphenylene oxide are heated to 260‹ C. without pressure in a mould, pressed at 260‹ C., cooled while maintaining pressure and have the pressure relieved, to form a flat plate of dielectric material which is heat, chemical and oxidation resistant. Two sheets of copper foil which have been oxidized on one face are placed with their oxidized faces one against each face of the polyphenylene oxide plate, and are bonded thereto by heat and pressure, the pressure being maintained during cooling.</p> |
