PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an abnormal condition of an endless member, and carry out fail safe treatment, in an engine starter for carrying out cranking by the endless member such as a belt. SOLUTION: A belt 13 as one shape of an endless member is wound around an engine 1, a starter motor 9, and an auxiliary machine 11. The engine 1 is drivingly started through the belt 13 by the starter motor 9. When a difference between both rotating speed of the starter motor 9 and the engine 1 is a prescribed threshold rotating speed value or more, it is judged that an abnormal condition is generated on the belt 13. When an operating abnormal condition is generated on a vehicle apparatus wound by the belt, it is judged that there is a cause in the abnormal condition of the belt. When the abnormal condition is generated, a main motor generator 3 of a hybrid system is used for start of the engine as an alternate motor for fail safe. An electrically driven water pump which is different from the mechanical water pump around which the belt is wound, is used as a pump for fail safe. |
