PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll coater which is intended to idealize a more improved prevention of intrusion of a coating liquid to a back-up roll as well as not to change a space occupied by the back-up rolls notwithstanding the width of a sheet. SOLUTION: Back-up rolls 34a, 34b and 34c are in contact with an intermediate roll 32 which is in contact with a coater roll. The back-up rolls 34a at the center and the back-up rolls 34b, 34c at both sides are in contact with the back-up roll 32 in a different position in the peripheral direction. The length of the shaft of back-up roll 34a at the center is a half of the intermediate roll 32. The length of the shaft of the back-up roll 34b and 34c is a third of the intermediate roll 32. The position of the back-up rolls 34a, 34b and 34c in the axis direction is independently controlled so that the width of the paper is beyond from both ends of each back-up roll in accordance with the width of the each paper W1, W2 and W3 respectively.
