PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an inorganic substance separation membrane having a good gas permeation rate and separation coefficient and to provide a membrane reactor which is to be used for generation of hydrogen by dehydrogenation of cyclohexane and which is significantly improved in the reaction conversion rate. SOLUTION: The inorganic substance separation membrane is produced by mixing an alkoxysilane Si(OR)4-n(OH)n (wherein R is a lower alkyl group, and (n) is 0, 1, 2 or 3) and a (meth)acryloxyalkyl group-containing alkoxysilane in an alcohol solvent, hydrolyzing the mixture to obtain a sol, and applying and calcining the sol on an inorganic porous supporting body. The gas separation membrane consisting of the obtained inorganic substance separation membrane is used as the inner pipe of a double pipe, and the space between the inner pipe and the outer pipe of the double pipe is filled with a catalyst to constitute the membrane reactor. By using the reactor, the reaction conversion rate of dehydrogenation of cyclohexane to benzene, namely the production rate of hydrogen can be significantly improved, and refined hydrogen with high purity can be obtained.
