PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of a shift in registration, a shift in a color in an image and a shift in a recording position of the image on a recording medium when intensities of laser beams for colors are set to different values. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus forms the image by modulating the beam intensity in accordance with a recording signal to scan the modulated recording beam. The image forming apparatus comprises beam intensity setting means 111, 127 for setting the beam intensity, scanning beam intensity detecting means 112-115, comparing means 116, 182 for comparing the detected signals of the beam intensity detecting means 112-115 with a reference signal, reference signal setting means 116, 181 for setting a level of the reference signal and a synchronism control means 110 for controlling synchronism between the scanning of the recording beam and the modulation by the recording signal. The reference signal level is set corresponding to the scanning beam intensity by the reference signal setting means when initial setting or renewing of the setting is performed by the beam intensity setting means. |
