There is disclosed the use of a compound comprising formula (I) or (II) as an active pharmaceutical substance, wherein a ring system is substituted at position 4, 5, 6, 7, and/or 8, and/or at position 1 when N is at position 2, the ring system being selected from a substituted or unsubstituted imidazoline, oxazole, thiazole or oxazoline, or combinations thereof, and wherein the compound optionally further comprises a substituent extending from one or more of positions 5, 6, 7 or 8, the substituent being selected from F, Cl, Br, OR' where R'=H or alkyl, and NR''2 wherein R''=H, O or alkyl, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts and prodrugs thereof. The compound is particularly useful in the treatment of hypertension, obesity and strokes. |
