Sulphur is melted by adding it to a vessel contg. hot water so that in the sulphur melting zone a temp. of 138-160 degrees C is obtained and the molten sulphur is removed from the bottom of the vessel. The water column through which the sulphur drops to the melting zone is pref. such that the water does not boil from the top. Alternatively the vessel may be pressurised and fed by an aqueous slurry of sulphur. The hot water may be in a recirculating system with suitable filters, heaters etc.
|
