PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in-line fuel injection pump for a diesel engine capable of improving reliability of a pump element 6 by preventing seizure of a plunger 4 and a cylinder 5 even if external force acts on the cylinder 5 of the pump element 6. SOLUTION: A first clearance formed between an inner circumference of a first guide part 11 of a pump housing 1 and an outer periphery of a first held part 36 of the cylinder 5 is reduced for a prescribed value (for example 40 μm) smaller than a second clearance formed between an inner circumference of a second guide part 12 of the pump housing 1 and an outer periphery of a second held part 37 of the cylinder 5, and thereby, the second held part 37 of the cylinder 5 does not abut on the inner circumference of the second guide part 12 even if an abutting part of the first guide part 11 is rotated as a fulcrum by acting the external force on a valve holder 54 integratedly assembled with the cylinder 5 tentatively. It is thus possible to prevent the cylinder 5 from deforming in a dogleg shape. |
