A pneumatic tyre has at least a pair of carcase plies 5, 6 the cords of which are arranged parallel to one another and at an angle of substantially 90‹ with respect to the circumforential direction of the tyre in the sidewall regions of the tyre and at an angle of between 5‹ and 30‹ with respect to the circumferential direction of the tyre in the tread region of the tyre and at least one crown ply 7 arranged between the carcase plies 5, 6 with its cords laid at an opposite angle to the cords of the carcase plies. An additional crown ply 8 with its edges extending into the shoulder regions of the tyre may be located above the radially outermost carcase ply, the cords of crown ply 8 also being arranged at an opposite angle with respect to the cords of the outermost carcase ply. In a modification rubber strips of triangular cross-section may be located in the shoulder regions of the tyre between the crown ply 8 and the radially outermost carcase ply. |
