Blow-moulding apparatus includes a resiliently deformable member insertable into the neck of the preform so that when axially compressed, the consequent radial expansion thereof presses the neck of the preform against the mould wall. As shown in Fig. 1, a heated preform 1 is placed in the mould, its flange 2 seating in rebate 7. Cylinder 28 is then lowered against the mould by cylinder 40, introducing the deformable member 26 into the preform 1. Piston 30 of cylinder 28 is then lowered to compress the member 26 to form the neck portion of the preform. Tubular member 13 is then lowered, stretching the preform while supplying air to expand it. In an alternative embodiment, cylinder 40 is omitted and a frictional connection (49, Fig. 2, not shown) is provided between cylinder 28 and tubular member 13. |
