PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst component for olefin polymerization that is highly active and capable of obtaining a polymer excellent in polymer properties at a low cost, and a catalyst for olefin polymerization using the same. SOLUTION: The catalyst component for olefin polymerization is characterized in using an ion-exchangeable layer silicate having following property [I]. [I] In a desorption isotherm in a nitrogen adsorption and desorption method the ratio of the remaining adsorption amount (b) at P/P0=0.85 to the adsorption amount (a) at the relative pressure of P/P0=1 satisfies the following formula: (b)/(a)>=0.8.
