The continuous measurement of live microorganisms in liquids comprises metering of the rate of variation in the oxygen dissolved in an e.g. water sample being analyzed. The water has added to it a specific amount of oxidizing substrate. The oxidizing substrate is e.g. a hydrogen peroxide solution on elimination of the dissolved oxygen present initially in the sample.
