Open air public locations and sports arenas (2) are protected against rain and its effects by a system comprising a resistant cable (6), preferably of steel, with one end fixed dismantlably to an anchorage (4) at an external point and at a greater height than the area to be protected. The other end of the cable is fixed to a winch (1) facing the anchorage and at the same height as it. A laminar waterproof cover (8) is arranged on the cable, which forms a ridge surface when the cable is stretched. One of the ends of the cover surface is connected to a roller or cylinder (9) whilst the other end is connected dismantlably to another roller or cylinder at equal height to the first end.
