The production of amine group protection reagents comprises reacting a chloroformate derivative with e.g. N-hydroxysuccinimide or a derivative of this, to prepare aryl-alkoxycarbonyl derivatives. The reaction, in aqueous organic medium (water and a non-miscible organic solvent), permits recuperation of the medium.
