NOVEL TOPICAL FORMULATIONS

PURPOSE: Provided is a method for enhancing the transmembrane and/or topical penetration of pharmacologically active substances using a certain vesicle delivery system as an enhancing agent, and an optional detergent, as well as the compositions used therein. CONSTITUTION: A composition for enhancing the topical application of benefit agents comprises, based upon the total weight of the composition: A. a vesicle delivery system comprised of: i) a vesicle bilayer comprised of: (a) at least one first dual chain lipid; (b) optionally, at least one first single chain lipid; and (c) at least one sterol; and ii) a hydrophilic carrier contained within the vesicle bilayer; and B. an effective amount of the benefit agent. The topical application obtained can effectively deliver various active agents selected from hair growth agents, hair inhibitor agents, anti-acne agents, depilatory agents, anti-aging agents, and depigmentation agents.
